Literacy Volunteer of Monongalia and Preston County

LVMPC is celebrating its 30th year of providing free, confidential, and innovative services to adults in Monongalia and Preston Counties. Over 15,000 adults in the two counties cannot read above a 4th grade reading level. They provide 1-on-1 tutoring and classes in GED prep, basic computing skills, and citizenship prep. They also host an English Conversation Table in Morgantown and run the Ruby Read Mobile Library in Preston County. Their curriculum is designed to be accessible and portable. Whether tucked away in rural mountain communities or right downtown, tutors and learners work together when and where they can, ensuring that learning can still happen despite work or family commitments.

We created six print ads incorporating adult learners' quotes as well as facts and statistics about their literacy issues. Because people are unaware of the literacy issues in Monongalia and Preston counties, the objective of these ads is to raise awareness and educate the public about its local literacy issues and how they can help.

LVMPC's motto is Each 1, Teach 1--the belief that they can eliminate illiteracy by teaching people how to pass on their own knowledge, creating a ripple effect of learning and literacy. We created a short infomercial that will be used to educate the public on the facts and statistics on how Monongalia and Preston counties are affected by literacy issues, in addition to the impacts on an adult learner's life.
